Do Bark Lice Insects Damage Trees?
By:
noreply@blogger.com (Beau Monde Nursery Landscape & Florist LLC)
on
MAY

The lice do not actually hurt trees and are often thought of as helpful because they clean trees by eating things that your tree does not need like fungi, algae, mold, dead plant tissue and other debris. Bark lice actually devour their silken webbing at the end of the season as well, completing their job as cleanup crew. Bark lice treatment is unnecessary, as these insects are not really considered pests. Some homeowners will spray a heavy stream of water on the webs to disturb the colony. However, since the insects are beneficial, it is suggested that they be left alone. Now that you know a little more about bark lice in trees, you can see that they are nothing to be alarmed about.Copyright© Beau Monde Landscape LLC. All Rights Reserved.

For many years I was a little disappointed in the shape of our living room. It was rectangular, no fireplace, and had no foyer entrance. For years I would look at the four corners of our room, trying to imagine where I could have a fireplace installed that could serve multiple purposes. The only thing we do in this room is watch television. I decided to add the fireplace not exactly in the center of our room, but enough space that it would #1. Create a false wall for a foyer area, #2. Have a beautiful fireplace, #3. We could mount our television for theatrical viewing. I allowed four feet around the back and sides of the fireplace to allow you to walk all the way around the fireplace. We also added a beautiful white bookshelf to the backside of the fireplace, so we you enter the foyer area you don't actually see the fireplace, but a foyer area with displayed family photos on the bookshelf. We added wheels to the bookshelf to allow you to roll the bookshelf out incase later we have to

Crape Myrtle Tree Trunk Splits
By:

I was working in my yard a couple of days ago and noticed that one of my Crape Myrtle trees had two significant cracks on the trunk of the tree. Living in South Louisiana, this doesn't surprise me. One minute it's cold, then hot. We go through seasons when we're praying for rain, then when the rain starts, it doesn't know when to stop. Splits can occur on the trunk of the tree as well as on branches. Bark splits are not likely to be fatal to trees, although they will, in some cases, allow entry of disease organisms, which can cause decay. During late winter and early spring, sharp temperature changes between day and night can freeze the water within the trunk causing it to explode or split open in a symptom referred to as “frost-cracks.” Frost cracks can also start from a wound inflicted earlier in the tree’s development. Sometimes the crack may remain in the internal wood, but frost can cause the crack to expand and split the bark. Excessively lat

January Landscape & Lawn Care Checklist

Mulching (Mowing) leaves is a great way to dispose of them. Mulching also mixes grass clippings with the leaf particles. Mulching is faster and far easier than raking. As organic mulches decompose, they release valuable nutrients for use by your lawn and landscape plants. This is also a good time evaluate your landscape, and remove unattractive plants. NOTE: If your Banana tree foliage, or other bulbed plants have turned brown from the frost, you can cut them back. They're bulbs and return in the spring. Before planting in Spring, now would be a good time to get your shed in order, clear our weeds, mulch and other debris. Prepare the soil. Set up new planters and garden beds. Remove invasive weeds that may have taken over the growing season. Copyright© Beau Monde Landscape LLC. All Rights Reserved.

Broadleaf weeds — such as clover, sticker weed, annual bluegrass infesting St. Augustinegrass, centipedegrass and zoysiagrass, as well as dormant bermudagrass — can be managed with applications of atrazine herbicide applied in February and March. These are good months to spray winter weeds because they are still actively growing and not producing seed. Atrazine is an herbicide of the triazine class. It is one of the most widely used herbicides in the U.S.Copyright© Beau Monde Landscape LLC. All Rights Reserved.

Pansy Flower Facts Pansies, (Viola X wittrockiana) the colorful flowers with “little faces.” A cool-weather favorite, pansies are great for winter and will continue to bloom until spring here in Lafayette, Louisiana ! Here’s how to keep your pansies growing and blooming. How to Plant Pansies Plant in moist, humus-rich, well-drained soil. Pansies like sun, but cooler temperatures. They can tolerate a couple of hours in the shade. Space the plants about 7 to 12 inches apart. They will spread about 9 to 12 inches and grow to be about 6 to 9 inches tall. Remember to water your pansies regularly. One of the most common reasons pansies fail is because they are not watered enough, so if your pansies are not doing well, try watering them more. We like to water pansies every other day for approximately 10 minutes. You can use a general, all-purpose fertilizer around your pansies to help them&n
